Exec. Dir. Teresa Denton (center) and board member Karen Lynch and her husband, Kevin, toast to the success of the theater benefit, whose proceeds will help keep the wheels of School and Tutors on Wheels rolling throughout Cook and Du Page counties for another year. Karen Lynch, and her cousin, Sara Lloyd, coordinated the spectacular raffle of 41 baskets and two silent auction items: a diamond bracelet donated by Linnea Jewelers and a priceless Bulls signing event donated by suporter Robert Consentino.

Board member Paul Jarosz hands Laugh for Literacy programs to Sr. Janet Bolger, CSJ, and Alison McCrary, who are eager to read about the award recipients, event sponsors and raffle basket donors who made the third annual Laugh for Literacy benefit night possible. Behind them, Sr. Pat Bergen is busy doling out and getting warm hugs from demonstrative friends.

Tutors on Wheels, the sister program of School on Wheels, has ten locations throughout DuPage County in partnership with suburban schools, libraries, churches and community centers.

STOW Board member Paul Jarosz of Oxford Bank uses his banking finesse to help volunteer tutor Ann Hileman collect ticket payments at the door. “Show me the money,” says Paul with a smile. With true dedication, he waits until the last guest has arrived and the last ticket is accounted for.

Award-wining restaurateur Emilio Gervilla poses with volunteer kitchen coordinator Rosa Barbosa and volunteers Gail Norman and Julie Glista, both tutors. The food volunteers replenished the tables throughout the night with the tantalizing appetizers and dessert from Emilio’s Tapas in Hillside and more than 700 cookies made by the sisters of the Congregation of St. Joseph.

Such is her affection for the program that Bernhard sponsored this year's event. "Congratulations to my forever friends. You will always be in my heart," read her program message.
